Breaking: Another major exchange has started offboarding users in certain regions ⚠️

On October 16, Bitget updated its English-language Terms of Service, adding Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan to its list of “Prohibited Service Regions.”

Based on information circulating so far, the timeline appears to be as follows:
🔹 Notification emails shared by some users say that, starting at 15:00 on October 18 (Beijing time), users will no longer be able to open new positions or place new orders
🔹 Users must close their positions and withdraw their assets by 15:00 on October 21. Any positions or orders left open after that will be automatically closed
🔹 Account access will begin to be restricted on October 22. For accounts with balances of 10 USDT or less, the platform reserves the right to withhold the funds as an account-closure fee

Bitget’s official statement is fairly restrained: this is a one-time measure affecting only certain users; the platform will continue operating as usual, and users’ funds are safe. Anyone who hasn’t received a notice can continue using the platform normally. However, the main announcement gives no universal deadline and does not say how many accounts are affected or which regulatory requirements or licensing arrangements the decision is based on.

My take: Exchanges have been tightening their compliance requirements over the past couple of years. Just a few days ago, regulators called out offshore perpetual contracts; now platforms are proactively “redrawing the map.” For ordinary users, the biggest concern isn’t being restricted—it’s only seeing the notice in the final day or two, leaving too little time to manage their positions.

Have any of the platforms you use recently sent out a similar notice?
