U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending the implementation of “hellish sanctions”—a set of measures provided for under the so-called Graham Act.
The document provides for a temporary waiver of 500% tariffs on Russian goods, as well as 100% tariffs on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas.
The decision was made in the interests of national security. The law itself remains in effect, however, and the restrictions it provides for may be imposed at a later date.
The executive order was published on October 16 on the official White House website.
