🇺🇳 Millions of Ukrainians could become refugees again this winter, the UN warns

Several million Ukrainians who returned home after fleeing the fighting risk being displaced again this winter, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned.

According to the organization, among families who have already returned home, the intention to leave their homes again has now reached its highest level in the past three months. Reasons include damaged homes, Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, and a lack of affordable heating.

The IOM estimates that there are currently nearly 3.6 million internally displaced people (IDPs) in Ukraine, while around 3.8 million people have returned to their places of residence after being forced to leave them at the start of the war.

Around 1.45 million Ukrainians who have returned are now living in areas near the front line, including 565,000 in Kharkiv Oblast.
