Most contracts on Ethereum are written in Solidity. After being compiled into bytecode, they are deployed on-chain and executed in the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
Ethereum mainnet officially launched in July 2015, making it one of the earliest public blockchains capable of running general-purpose smart contracts.
Before interacting with a newly launched contract, try it with a small amount first. Don’t put in a large sum right away.
