【Old Leek Watch】$SOL : Payment rollout and network upgrade—where is Solana’s next catalyst?
What’s worth watching with SOL lately isn’t just price volatility; payment use cases and underlying network upgrades are both moving forward.
First, Samsung Wallet. Plans disclosed earlier indicate that Samsung Wallet is set to begin supporting US users in transferring USDC via Solana in the last week of October, potentially reaching around 82 million Galaxy devices. If the feature launches as planned, Solana could gain a foothold in everyday payments and stablecoin transfers.
Second, the Alpenglow consensus upgrade. One of its goals is to cut transaction finality time to around 150 milliseconds and improve the network’s consensus mechanism. However, technical targets don’t guarantee real-world performance, and the mainnet launch date remains subject to official updates.
Why do these two developments matter?
Payment functionality will determine whether Solana can attract more real users, while the network upgrade will affect its ability to support larger-scale application demand. That said, USDC transfers by users don’t necessarily mean sustained buying pressure for SOL. Ultimately, it comes down to on-chain activity, demand for transaction fees, and whether capital is actually growing.
Old Leek Watch: The key story for SOL is its shift from the high-performance blockchain narrative toward real-world payment use cases. Next, keep an eye on whether Samsung’s feature opens as scheduled, whether stablecoin transfers
grow, and whether there is further confirmation of the upgrade timeline.
