Hello, fellow traders! We continue our journey in the educational series on mastering trends and levels. After covering how to draw trendlines and trade their breakouts and retests, today we turn to one of the market’s most important psychological and technical phenomena: role reversal between support and resistance (Role Reversal).
🎯 Rule #4: "Broken resistance becomes new support, and broken support becomes fierce resistance"
💡 The concept in simple terms:
The market relies on price memory. When buyers fight to break through a strong historical resistance level, they leave behind a huge psychological and institutional mark.
Once this level is broken and price holds above it, the sellers who lost their past battles at this point turn into buyers, and the old ceiling (resistance) becomes a solid floor (support) that protects the price from falling in the future.
---
🔍 1️⃣ How does role reversal happen?
• When resistance is broken (Resistance to Support):
- The price breaks through a strong horizontal resistance level and closes above it.
- When the price later falls back, selling stops at exactly the same line, because traders now see this area as a cheap buying opportunity, causing prices to bounce upward again.
• When support is broken (Support to Resistance):
- The price breaks below a major support line and closes beneath it.
- When the price later tries to rise, it hits the same line, which has turned from a support floor into a resistance ceiling that blocks the upward move and pushes prices down.
---
🔍 2️⃣ Why do these areas work repeatedly?
1. Traders’ and institutions’ memory: Everyone watches the same historical levels on the chart.
2. Stop-loss orders are triggered: A break of support triggers buyers’ stop-loss orders, turning them into new sellers who push the price down when it returns to the level.
3. Liquidity pools: Large concentrations of pending orders tend to form whenever these role-reversal levels are retested.
---
🛠 How to trade the role-reversal strategy professionally?
• Clearly identify the level:
- Draw horizontal support and resistance levels that have seen strong, repeated bounces in the past.
• Wait for the role-reversed level to be tested:
- Don’t chase the price during a sharp breakout; instead, wait for the price to return calmly and test the flipped level.
• Entry signal and risk management:
- Open your trade when a clear reversal or rejection candle appears at the role-reversal levels.
- Place your stop loss (Stop Loss) just beyond the role-reversal level to protect your account from false breakouts.
---
⚖️ Rule summary:
"The floor you stand on today was the ceiling that protected you yesterday... Respect the market’s memory and don’t go against the direction of role reversal."
