and closed at $109.86
up 3.7% on the day
U.S. WTI crude also climbed to $101.41
with gains of more than 10% so far this week
Why the sudden surge?
This isn't some gas station owner quietly bumping up prices
It's the escalating situation in the Middle East and disruptions to Russian energy supplies
that have investors worrying again about a shortage of oil
