Quantum news: Don’t mistake engineering progress for a wallet having been cracked.
CoinDesk reported at 10:30 a.m. Beijing time on October 17 that Google Willow reduced errors by about 40 times in a specific quantum state preparation task, but only about 8% of attempts passed the selection criteria, and scaling up remains challenging. The report explicitly states that this does not mean the cost of attacking Bitcoin has fallen by 40 times.
My take: What’s really worth watching is error-corrected hardware, sustained computing capability, and plans for migration to post-quantum security—not using a single experimental metric to predict coin prices directly. Nor can transfers from old addresses be attributed to quantum panic based solely on coincidental timing.
