According to Jin10, Iran's Revolutionary Guards' Navy said a supertanker carrying more than 2 million barrels of crude oil struck a mine while attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz via an unauthorized route, causing a violent explosion and a serious fire. The navy said the tanker had shut down all positioning and radar systems and attempted to cross the strait under the cover and support of U.S. forces. It said the Strait of Hormuz was closed and warned that vessels violating Iran's rules for the strait would ultimately perish in flames if they trusted what it called the U.S. terrorist forces.
