Visa’s USDC prefunding enters commercial use, but that doesn’t mean remittances arrive instantly end to end

My take: This launch improves the prefunding process for payment companies. It does not, by itself, mean recipients can receive funds instantly around the clock. When choosing a remittance service, you should still check the actual delivery time and total cost—not just whether it “uses stablecoins.”

On October 15, Visa announced that its stablecoin prefunding feature had moved from pilot to commercial use, with Inyo Global becoming the first service provider to offer it. On October 16, The Block followed up with a report: eligible businesses can use Inyo’s existing interface to replenish, in near real time, the funds needed for cross-border payments with USDC, rather than waiting for traditional funding windows to open.

It’s important to distinguish between having the money ready to make a payment and paying the recipient. More flexibility in the first step doesn’t automatically mean the second step is faster, nor does it mean the recipient receives USDC directly. Sending stablecoins directly to recipients is a separate feature.

Don’t interpret “available in more than 180 countries” as meaning the USDC feature is available everywhere: that refers to Inyo’s payment coverage. Visa separately notes that the new feature is subject to customer eligibility and regional restrictions.

Moving from pilot to commercial use is meaningful progress, but the announcement did not disclose the service’s actual scale, total user costs, or delivery performance across different remittance routes. So for now, I see the benefit as limited to corporate fund management, rather than concluding that “global remittances are now faster and cheaper.”

Over the next week, watch for details on participating customers, supported routes, fee schedules, and actual delivery data. If total costs fall and delivery times shorten on the same route—and those results can be independently verified—I’ll become more confident that the user experience has improved. If the only confirmed benefit is more flexible prefunding, I won’t treat that as faster processing end to end.
