On October 16, on-chain analyst Axel Adler Jr. wrote that Bitcoin “short-term holders” (those holding coins for less than roughly 155 days) collectively held about 4.08 million $BTC , the highest level since mid-June. Since the July 29 low, this group has added a net 422,000 coins (about +12%); it added another roughly 154,000 coins in the first two weeks of October, including about 48,000 over the past week.

New buyers mainly entered in the $82,000–$86,000 range. As of October 16, $BTC spot was trading at about $82,100, while this group’s average cost basis was around $74,900; its unrealized profit cushion had narrowed from roughly 16% to about 10%. Since August 20, spot has remained above its cost basis, with a gap of about $7,200.

If the price falls below roughly $74,900, this group would move into unrealized losses, potentially increasing selling pressure. In early Asian trading on October 17, $BTC was around $81,500, down slightly over 24 hours.
