INTC: After the plunge — what’s next?
As recently as early October, Intel was trading above 89–90**. In one week, the stock lost more than 14%, and on October 16 it closed at $89.85 (-5.79%). The market is holding its breath ahead of the third-quarter report.
📊 What happened
The drop wasn’t an isolated event. Several factors came into play at once.
📉 Why the pullback
• Broad tech-sector decline: On October 16, U.S. indexes closed lower amid concerns about overheating in AI investments. Micron lost 5.6%, Intel — 5.8%.
• Explosion at a plant in Israel: On October 14, an explosion occurred at Intel’s facility in Kiryat Gat, injuring three people. The plant produces CPUs, raising concerns about supply.
• Competition with TSMC in Terafab: It emerged that Musk is in talks with TSMC about collaborating on the Terafab project, where Intel had previously been a key partner. For Intel, this signals that even its own bets on contract manufacturing could be challenged.
🔧Will the October 29 report show that AI demand is translating into contract manufacturing revenue? We’re watching October 29.
