The Italian minister jumped in to say that Trump’s policy on aid to Ukraine was “completely wrong.” It sounds like taking sides, but the market doesn’t care who’s right or wrong—it only smells gunpowder.

$CL is at 99.36 today, up 3.46% over 24 hours. That’s no coincidence. Once disagreements over aid to Ukraine are out in the open, Europeans will be even more eager to replenish their energy stocks, and risk premiums on shipping routes in the Middle East and Black Sea will rise immediately. The key is whether it can hold above the 100 mark. A break above that would signal a new uptrend; as long as a pullback holds above 95, the bullish trend remains intact.

$XAU , by contrast, is taking it in stride. It spent the day hovering around 4171 and rose just 0.25%. Safe-haven money is waiting for a clearer signal—it’ll jump only if fighting breaks out or sanctions escalate. For now, 4140 is near-term support; a break below that could send it down to 4080.

What’s interesting is that the more chaotic geopolitics get, the more these two diverge. Oil is hot-tempered; gold is slow and steady. Don’t expect them to surge at the same time.

It’s more useful to trade based on news headlines than to fixate on the charts.
