Altcoin Season Does Not Begin With a Price Move

Most traders wait for altcoin season to announce itself in the charts. By then, the best entries are already gone.

The actual signal arrives earlier — in stablecoin supply velocity.

Here is the sequence worth watching:

1. Stablecoin aggregate supply expands. This is new capital entering the ecosystem, not rotation from existing holdings. Rising supply means the total bid pool is growing.

2. That capital parks in $BTC first. Dominance climbs. The market absorbs risk slowly.

3. $ETH begins to outperform BTC on a ratio basis. The ETH/BTC pair turns up. This is the clearest early rotation tell — smart capital moving one step out on the risk curve.

4. Stablecoin velocity increases on-chain. Wallets that were holding dry powder begin deploying into risk assets across the board.

5. Small and mid-cap alts catch bid — last, not first.

The mistake most people make is treating altcoin season as a rotation story: BTC holders selling to buy alts. That is mostly wrong. Real altseason is an expansion story. New money floods in, fills BTC first, then overflows.

If stablecoin supply is flat and dominance is falling, you are watching leverage and short squeezes — not a durable rotation. That kind of move evaporates when funding flips.

Track stablecoin supply growth. Watch the ETH/BTC ratio. The rotation tells you which season is open before price confirms it.
