$SNDK SanDisk fell below $1,300, closing at $1,299.30, down 6.85% for the day. On the same day, SK Hynix, Western Digital, Micron, and Seagate all plunged, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell for eight consecutive trading days, its longest losing streak since 2008.

This sell-off has nothing to do with SanDisk’s own fundamentals. It was driven by three factors converging at once: AI cloud provider CoreWeave’s stock plunged nearly 12%, and its bonds have fallen to levels that typically signal financial distress, prompting market concerns that the highly leveraged expansion model for AI infrastructure may not be sustainable; international oil prices surged more than 3% in a single day, reviving inflation concerns; and Anthropic’s third-quarter revenue growth slowed, leading some investors to cut its valuation expectations from $2 trillion to $1.5 trillion.

But SanDisk’s fundamentals haven’t changed. The consensus rating from 25 analysts is Buy, with an average price target of $2,173, 67% above the current price. Citi maintained its $2,100 target, Mizuho raised its target from $1,875 to $2,050, and Bernstein set a target of $3,000. The company has $42 billion in long-term contracts, and it reports earnings on October 29. If its guidance remains strong, the hole carved out by this panic-driven sell-off could be an opportunity.

In the short term, if the low near $1,296 doesn’t hold, there could be one final leg down. But shorting at this level offers very little upside relative to the risk. I’m bullish and waiting for a recovery around the earnings report.
