I posted an order, and my phone was stolen in a five-person “relay”

Ms. Wang from Shiyan, Hubei, spent 11,999 yuan on a new phone. After getting the shipping notification, she casually posted a screenshot of her order online while she “waited to unbox it.” Her order number and tracking number were both fully visible.

Then, on October 6, as soon as the phone arrived at a logistics hub, a criminal used the tracking number to send a courier rider to pick it up. The delivery person called to verify, but she had just woken up, gave a groggy response, and hung up. The delivery person didn’t thoroughly check the rider’s identity and handed over the phone. After getting it, the thief arranged for five riders to pass it along in a relay (they didn’t know one another, and each transported it for one leg) toward Henan. Police pursued the case through the night and, at 4 a.m., intercepted the package while it was being transferred in Wuhan. It was returned on October 7.

My take is simple: the real weak link here wasn’t the delivery service—it was the mindset that “it’s no big deal if I post this.” You think you’re showing off something nice, but you’re actually showing off the keys. An order number, tracking number, or pickup code—any one of them could let someone claim your stuff.

And this is exactly the same kind of trap crypto traders fall into: the screenshots of your holdings, the seed phrase you photograph, the exchange interface you leave visible—they’re all “tracking numbers.” Once an on-chain address is linked to your identity, your account is effectively exposed.

Here are four things you can do today:
① Always redact order screenshots, shipping labels, and pickup codes before posting.
② Sign for valuable items in person; don’t let a courier pick them up for you.
③ Don’t brush off verification calls from delivery staff—check the details carefully.
④ Never include screenshots of your holdings, wallet addresses, or seed phrases in photos.

In short: every picture you post is like handing a key to a stranger.
