Lighter opens its network; perpetual DEXs have to shift their chips

Lighter’s EVM development network launches today: an EVM-equivalent rollup co-built with Axiom and powered by OpenVM. It shares a ZK proof system with Lighter Core to settle back to Ethereum. Developers can use Foundry or Hardhat to read accounts, positions, and order books—and directly write contracts to place and cancel orders.

This is a real diversion of capital from . The bread and butter of perpetual DEXs is order-book depth and matching latency. Now that all order-book data is exposed to the contract layer, market makers can write strategy contracts to tap into that depth, slashing the cost of moving capital. If staking TVL over on keeps falling, the price will test support at the previous low; any rebound will be weak. The daily chart is still grinding within a range. This news draws away narrative attention, but its impact on actual trading volume is limited. A move above the range’s upper boundary will likely be rejected; a retest of the lower boundary that holds would be the point worth buying.

If you’re still holding a position, would you cut it in half here or wait for mainnet scaling? At the lower end of ’s range, would you dare place a bid?
