Ihor Kolomoyskyi has won an international arbitration case against the Russian Federation.
The Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague issued its final ruling unanimously.
Case details:
• Nature of the claim: The case had been under consideration since 2015 and concerned Russia’s unlawful expropriation of the Ukrainian businessman’s property and assets following the occupation of Crimea in 2014.
Russia deprived the claimants of their ownership rights to the passenger commercial terminal at Belbek Airport near Sevastopol, which Kolomoyskyi had a contract to operate until 2020.
• Compensation: The court ordered the Russian Federation to pay Ihor Kolomoyskyi and the Airport Belbek LLC under his control 11.5 million US dollars.
• Additional payments: In addition to the principal amount, the Russian Federation is required to pay interest accruing from June 16, 2014, until the payment is made.
In a parallel case, the Hague arbitration court ruled in favor of state-owned PrivatBank (formerly Kolomoyskyi’s bank), awarding compensation for lost Crimean assets.
📍Ihor Kolomoyskyi himself is currently being held in a Ukrainian pretrial detention facility in connection with other criminal proceedings in the country.
