LayerZero Labs, a16z Crypto researchers, Carnegie Mellon University and Imperial College London introduced Aerie, a system designed to improve the efficiency of post-quantum signature aggregation. According to Odaily, Aerie is built on Akita, a lattice-based polynomial commitment scheme, and aggregated 32,768 Falcon-512 signatures in 0.65 seconds on a MacBook Pro with an Apple M4 Max chip, using 16 CPU cores without GPU acceleration; peak memory use was about 2.1 GiB.

LayerZero said Aerie generates proofs about 1.5 times faster and verifies them 38 times faster than the earlier Orthus scheme, while reducing proof size by about 1.7 times. Aerie also supports aggregation of NIST-standardized ML-DSA signatures, with performance figures to be published later. The research aims to provide a path toward low-latency, post-quantum-secure blockchain consensus without specialized hardware.
