The Solana Accelerate event in Shanghai was postponed after preregistrations exceeded the attendance limit set by local authorities, Solana Foundation President Lily Liu said.
After information about the event was published, the number of registrations quadrupled overnight, Liu wrote in a post on X on Friday, adding that the organizers decided to postpone the event to “comply with local requirements.”
Earlier on Friday, X users claimed the event had been “suddenly suspended” because law enforcement officers were at the venue.
In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was also cut short due to the venue’s limited capacity and public safety concerns, as the Chinese-language Solana community account reported on X at the time.
According to the event website, Shanghai was set to kick off the four-city Solana Accelerate China tour, followed by Hangzhou on Sunday, Shenzhen on Tuesday, and Beijing on Thursday.
News of the postponement came after Solana executives spoke about a new office in Shanghai earlier this week.
China bans a range of cryptocurrency-related services, including fundraising through token issuance, trading, and mining. In February, the People’s Bank of China and seven other agencies reaffirmed these restrictions in a notice, adding new bans, including on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.
