According to CNBC, U.S. officials pressed Beijing on market access for Mastercard and Citigroup during at least two bilateral meetings in Bangkok this week, a U.S. Treasury official said. Deputy Secretary Francis Brooke led the delegation, which met with officials from the People’s Bank of China and the finance ministry. The talks also covered Visa and continued discussions on implementing deals that included regulatory approvals for U.S. companies, agreed to during a meeting between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping last month. China approved Visa on Oct. 13 to begin preparing a wholly owned domestic card-clearing business.
