🧮 Technical Principles | Digital Signatures
· Definition: Every transaction from an Ethereum externally owned account has an incrementing nonce. Each nonce can only be included in a block once, preventing the same transaction from being executed repeatedly.
· Why it matters: A signature request that pops up in your wallet isn’t necessarily for a transfer; it could also be for token approval or an off-chain signature. The consequences of signing may be similar to those of a transfer.
· Caution: Anyone asking you to provide your private key or recovery phrase to “verify a signature” is a scammer. A genuine signature never requires you to hand over your private key.
