Schwab opens spot crypto trading

U.S. brokerage giant Charles Schwab has completed the retail rollout of Schwab Crypto, giving 40.3 million active brokerage accounts direct access to BTC and ETH trading at a 0.75% fee. Trades can range from $1 to $2 million, with execution and sub-custody handled by Paxos. The firm has $13.33 trillion in client assets, and its clients already hold about 20% of the entire industry’s spot crypto ETFs. Withdrawals remain tightly restricted: up to three transactions every 24 hours, capped at $5,000 each; monthly deposits are capped at $50 million, and new addresses require a 24-hour wait.

Wider access brings in allocation-driven buying, while withdrawal limits keep out high-frequency traders and on-chain arbitrage capital. With Paxos providing custody, most holdings will initially stay on the brokerage’s books rather than immediately adding to on-chain spot-market depth. ETFs have already absorbed one wave of expectations around access for traditional investors. This spot-trading launch offers no fee advantage, so in the short term, prices could easily pull back after the news-driven rally. For BTC, watch the previous high and the 20-day moving average; for ETH, watch whether ETF net inflows can pick up. SOL is still waiting on expectations of a launch before the end of 2026. It has room to catch up, but its market depth is a notch lower, so chasing a rally could leave you vulnerable to a liquidity-driven reversal.

For those of you holding BTC, ETH, or SOL: with Schwab’s 0.75% fee and $5,000 withdrawal limit, would you add to your positions or trim into a rally?
