Things I learned through experience
$1. Do not risk more than 0.5%–1% of your capital on a single trade.
Beginner: 0.25%–0.5%.
Professional: usually a maximum of 1%.
This protects you from a streak of consecutive losses.
2. A stop loss is mandatory.
No trade without a stop loss.
Never move the stop loss against you.
It can only be moved to reduce risk or secure a profit.
3. Only enter trades with a potential return of at least 1.5–2 times the risk.
If your risk is 1R, your target should be at least 1.5R–2R.
This makes it possible to be profitable even if your win rate is below 50%.
4. Have a written trading plan.
Market, time frame, entry conditions, exit conditions, position size, trading hours.
Don’t enter a trade because you “feel” the market will rise.
5. Take one trade according to your plan, not your emotions.
Don’t take revenge after a loss.
Don’t give in to FOMO after missing a trade.
Don’t try to recover a loss with a larger trade.
6. Don’t increase your position size after a loss or a win.
Increasing your position size after a loss can wipe out your account.
Increasing your position size after a win creates false confidence.
7. Record every trade.
Reason, price, size, outcome, and how you felt.
Without keeping records, you won’t know what works and what doesn’t.
8. Review your performance weekly and monthly.
Win rate, average profit/loss, profit factor.
If the expected value is negative, stop and adjust the system.
9. Trade with money you don’t need.
