With funding this negative, can shorts still hold on? $BTW perpetuals are now at -0.0734%, settling every 4 hours, so shorts have to pay. This figure changed my view: the price is already down 10.88% over 24 hours, yet the funding rate has flipped clearly negative. The mark price is 1.6617 and the last price is 1.6697—very close, with little spread. Trading volume is $238 million, so activity is still there. There are about 239 minutes until the next settlement. I’ll set aside my directional bias for now and wait to see whether the funding rate gets pushed even lower. Are shorts adding to their bets, or is the trade already too crowded?
