$XAU $NVDAB Dow Jones jumps 556 as Nvidia falls — U.S. stocks enter a rotation phase
Wall Street traders spent Wednesday doing something they haven’t done much this year: fleeing anything bearing the “artificial intelligence” label. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 556.21 points (+1.08%) to 52,177.69, and the S&P 500 added about 0.33% to close at 7,744.06. By contrast, the Nasdaq Composite eked out a meager 0.08% gain after falling about 1.4% during the session, while chip giant Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) managed to trim its early loss of 3.8% to 1.8% by the close.
The dramatic shift came amid renewed concerns about how to finance the massive, multitrillion-dollar wave of spending on data centers in the AI sector. CoreWeave Inc (NASDAQ:CRWV)—the poster child for debt-laden AI infrastructure—saw its credit default swap (CDS) contracts surge to levels implying roughly a 60% probability of default over five years, despite its shares rebounding about 6% during the day.
