Deutsche Bank is just weeks away from entering the market: Reuters got confirmation today on the sidelines of the IMF annual meeting in Bangkok that the European banking giant, which manages over $2 trillion, will launch its digital custody services in Germany first, with its first assets under custody being ... and it plans to move into Asian financial hubs next year, while also putting tokenized deposits and on-chain bonds on the agenda.
It’s surreal when you think about it: just a few years ago, institutions had to set up wallets in the middle of the night and find someone to manage their private keys, terrified of getting hacked. Now banks are selling “we’ll custody your crypto for you” as a corporate banking service—and saying it’s meant to complement traditional finance, not replace it.
The million-dollar question: is this A) institutional adoption = super bullish, or B) banks getting involved = crypto’s ethos completely dead? Pick a side in the comments—no fence-sitting.
