⚡ Solana Swaps Its Consensus Engine in 5 Days
📅 Alpenglow activates at epoch 1064, Wed Oct 21, around 15:00 UTC (Solana Foundation).
🔁 It replaces TowerBFT, the voting system Solana has run since its 2020 launch.
📉 Finality target: about 12.8 seconds down to roughly 150ms.
🔍 Validators vote directly and form certificates instead of posting votes in blocks.
📊 Side effect: reported transaction counts could drop sharply without user activity falling (CoinDesk).
⚠️ Validators need Agave 4.3.0 and a registered BLS key. Firedancer operators must switch temporarily.
What it means for crypto: faster finality could help payments and trading apps on $SOL, but a live consensus swap carries execution risk. Wallet users don't need to do anything.
Will you watch the switch live on Oct 21? 👇
