Tokenized assets are creating new trading opportunities, but investor demand has not kept pace with the growing supply of real-world assets (RWAs) issued onchain, GSR Chief Revenue Officer Alex Taaffe said at CONNECT by Cointelegraph: Singapore Edition on Oct. 9. According to Cointelegraph, Taaffe said trading liquidity has improved for pre-IPO stocks, commodities and global equities, while fully tokenized assets still face a supply-demand imbalance. He added that the growing number of issuers and blockchains has fragmented liquidity. DWF Labs partner Lingling Jiang also pointed to separate liquidity pools when different issuers tokenize the same underlying asset, while noting that cryptocurrency liquidity has improved in recent years. Stablecoin panelists said broader adoption depends on making digital-dollar payments useful in daily life. Ether.fi founder and CEO Mike Silagadze cited Singapore consumers who may hold USDC but still need local currency to pay bills. USDD communications head Yvonne Chia emphasized user experience, and Mercuryo Chief Customer Officer Ashna Vaghela said payments should be as simple as Apple Pay. FinHarbor co-founder and CEO Ilya Podoynitsyn noted that providers must adapt compliance systems to different jurisdictions. Stablecoin market capitalization was reported at $306 billion, up about 2% year over year after growing roughly 74% in the preceding 12 months.
Panelists discussing the onchain trading stack said platforms struggle to identify liquidity across blockchain networks and manage counterparty risks. DoubleZero co-founder Austin Federa described fragmentation as both an execution and data problem, saying it can be difficult to determine how much liquidity exists onchain. Arkham Intelligence founder and CEO Miguel Morel said onchain data can help trading firms assess counterparties, improve pricing and evaluate customer deposits for compliance purposes. Venture investors also discussed difficulties exiting crypto investments. Nomad Capital’s Pulkit Gupta said liquidity had been particularly weak over the past three months and concentrated in larger cryptocurrencies, making exits in altcoins challenging. OneAsset CEO Sonia Shaw said startups now need stronger business fundamentals and that rapid exits are less common as the market matures. Funders VC partner Aleksandr Nechaev said founders’ expertise and ability to navigate rapid change are central to investment decisions. The event brought together Web3 founders, investors and executives for discussions on tokenization, stablecoin payments, onchain trading infrastructure and venture capital exits, as well as a startup pitch competition.
