Market Analysis: Bitcoin ($BTC) in the Testing Zone
On September 21, Bitcoin surpassed $86,000 for the first time since January. Beyond the price headline, the key figure that day was $82,225, the average cost basis of U.S. spot ETF holders, bringing them back to breakeven after eight months. This momentum did not come from organic spot-market buying, but from the liquidation of approximately $750 million in short positions after the $82,000 level gave way.
Macro Pressure and ETF Outflows
Twenty-five days later, the price of $BTC is flirting with that cost-basis line again. After being rejected twice below $87,400, the asset fell toward the $80,000 zone on October 14 and 15, weighed down by higher-than-expected inflation data (CPI and PPI). Meanwhile, institutional products showed weakness, with significant net outflows from ETFs: $484.9 million on October 7 and $261 million on October 14.
As a result, the $82,000 zone looks more like a heavily contested level than solid support, as investors who return to breakeven may choose to sell rather than accumulate.
Key Technical Levels:
Critical Support: Buyers have defended the $80,000 zone, a level that closely aligns with the 50-day moving average (approximately $80,300).
Resistance: The immediate range remains between $86,000 and $87,400.
Bullish Scenario: A daily close above $82,225 opens the way toward $86,000 and $87,400. A sustained move above $87,000 would mark the first clear sign of a breakout.
Bearish Scenario / Invalidation: A daily close below $80,000 would invalidate the current range thesis and point directly toward the 50-week moving average, near $78,000.
Current outlook: Maintain a wait-and-see stance within the $80,000–$87,400 range, keeping a close eye on upcoming daily closes and macroeconomic developments.
