I’ve been following @NillionNetwork lately and found it exploring a fascinating direction: Encrypted Markets.
Why should all information in on-chain trading have to be made public?
Trade outcomes can be publicly verified, but orders, trading strategies, and trigger conditions don’t necessarily need to be exposed to everyone before execution. That’s what Nillion is exploring with Covenants.
Covenants can bind an instruction to specific conditions, keeping it encrypted until those conditions are met. Then it can be decrypted and trigger subsequent execution.
DUSK is the first step on this path. It brings Covenants to Ethereum L1, using a decentralized node network to handle condition verification and decryption, laying the groundwork for broader applications in the future.
What I’m most looking forward to is whether Covenants can be applied to crypto trading, limit orders, and automated strategies, allowing users to retain control over their trades without revealing their intentions too early.
From Nillion’s foundation in privacy-preserving computation, to Covenants’ conditionally encrypted instructions, to DUSK’s implementation, what’s really worth watching is whether this technology can gradually evolve into infrastructure that developers can use.
Do you think privacy protection will become a key competitive advantage in the next phase of on-chain trading?
