I’ve always felt that once AI Agents start managing assets and executing trades, the biggest concern may not be whether they’re smart enough, but whether you dare to entrust them with truly important data.

You don’t want to make your trading strategies public or expose private memories, and you don’t want third parties to see execution instructions. But if you hide everything, the data can’t be used in real operations. That’s why I’ve been researching @Nillion recently.

Its Covenants aim to address this very tension: keeping data encrypted while allowing it to be used according to predefined conditions.

I also looked through its seven-stage Encrypted Markets roadmap:

DUSK: Already live on Ethereum mainnet, bringing conditional privacy-preserving execution online.

DARKFALL: Planned expansion to multiple EVM networks, moving beyond a single chain.

SKYGLOW: Further exploration of cross-chain and non-EVM environments, enabling more blockchain ecosystems to connect.

NIGHTSIDE: Support for more complex, custom conditions—not just execution when simple rules are met.

NEON: Introducing a formal language and virtual machine to make execution logic clearer and easier to verify.

AURORA: Advancing post-quantum security hardening to prepare for potential security risks in the future.

MOONSHINE: Further reducing data-processing costs, making privacy computing more practical for real-world applications.

Taken together, these seven stages follow a clear plan: first deliver the core capabilities, then expand to more chains and complex use cases, strengthen security and verification, and ultimately address the challenges of large-scale adoption. Of course, aside from DUSK, which is already live, the remaining stages will depend on future delivery.

I’m personally most interested in AI Agent applications. In the future, Agents may hold more than just chat histories—they could also have access to assets, trading strategies, and execution permissions. Enabling them to use this data without exposing sensitive information will become an increasingly real-world challenge.

Whether Nillion’s roadmap will succeed remains to be seen. But I believe privacy computing’s true value isn’t realized when data is successfully hidden; it’s realized when data can still create value while being protected.
