Whoa, has the U.S. really become a net importer of Bitcoin again? 🇺🇸📥
The latest Chainalysis report: In 2026, the U.S. became a net recipient of Bitcoin inflows for the first time in years—the last time was 2022.
A few hard numbers:
🔹 Institutions are still buying steadily, while retail investors are net sellers
🔹 Since spot BTC ETFs launched, the U.S. share of global Bitcoin activity has risen in every reporting period
🔹 Over the same period, the U.S. crypto economy was worth about $2.78 trillion, down 2.2% quarter over quarter
🔹 U.S. dollar stablecoins are flowing more toward overseas payments and cross-border settlements, while other regions are pulling ahead of the U.S. in stablecoin “intensity”
Put simply: Wall Street and ETF channels are drawing Bitcoin into the U.S., while retail investors are selling; but stablecoins’ main battleground is increasingly overseas. The makeup of who’s moving the money is changing, but that doesn’t necessarily mean prices will surge right away.
Do you see this as a bull-market signal led by institutions, or a division of labor where “the U.S. hoards Bitcoin while the rest spend stablecoins”? 👇
