When asked, “What exactly was merged in Ethereum’s ‘Merge’?”
I usually answer this way: Ethereum’s “Merge” was completed on September 15, 2022, when the original execution layer and the proof-of-stake Beacon Chain became one chain. Since mining rewards no longer needed to be paid to miners, the amount of new ETH issued dropped significantly after the “Merge.”
$ETH 2442.79 (+2.37%)
