A scammer got scammed…

One of the biggest victims of the Ledger theft was reportedly a scammer who lost over 60 $BTC worth roughly $4.8M.

According to Chainalysis, the funds came from a task scam involving fake product reviews and a trick that forced victims to deposit their own money to unlock supposed earnings.

On September 22, the operator split the proceeds across three Ledger addresses.

On October 9, all three were drained in separate transactions into the same wallet linked to stolen funds.

The irony is hard to miss. But the bigger lesson is that a hardware wallet alone cannot protect you from a compromised device or supply chain.

Even criminals can become victims of the same infrastructure they dubiously use and trust.
