#solanaalpenglow升级将于10月21日激活
【Old Leek Watch】$SOL Major upgrade countdown begins! On October 21, will Solana cut transaction finality to 150 milliseconds?
This is no ordinary minor update for Solana. The official team has scheduled the Alpenglow consensus upgrade’s mainnet migration to begin on October 21, around 23:00 Beijing time that evening. The exact time may vary depending on Epoch progress.
The upgrade’s main goal is to reduce transaction finality from the current roughly 12.8 seconds to about 150 milliseconds. Note that this is a performance target; actual results will still depend on network conditions.
There are three main changes:
First, the TowerBFT consensus mechanism, which has been in use for years, will be replaced so the network can finalize transactions more quickly.
Second, validator voting will move off-chain, rather than having voting transactions included in blocks as before. This means the number of public transactions on Solana may change significantly after the upgrade, but that doesn’t necessarily indicate a decline in genuine user activity.
Third, faster transaction confirmation could potentially benefit on-chain trading, DeFi, payments, and high-frequency applications. For users, whether the experience improves will depend on how the mainnet performs after the transition.
