Crypto trivia 📚 Hash functions
Ethereum uses Keccak-256. Keccak-256 and the later standardized SHA3-256 differ slightly in their padding rules, so they produce different results.
Common Bitcoin P2PKH and P2WPKH addresses are generated by first applying SHA-256 to the public key, then RIPEMD-160, resulting in a 160-bit public key hash.
Understanding this won’t make me money right away, but it can help me avoid a rookie mistake.
Mining $BTC essentially means repeatedly calculating SHA-256 hashes to find a result that meets the difficulty requirement. Currently 82112.53.
