On October 15, Binance launched two options-selling strategies: Covered Call and Cash-Secured Put. Both are strategies for sellers to earn premiums.

First, the requirements. Before participating, users must pass an options suitability assessment and sign a risk agreement. The platform put safeguards against retail investors opening positions recklessly in place from day one—a sequence worth noting.

Trading hours align with regular U.S. stock market hours and some extended-hours sessions. Settlement and delivery of the underlying stocks are handled by Alpaca, a brokerage infrastructure provider. These options are linked to stocks, not crypto.

There is also a hard risk-control rule: only limit orders are accepted. Slippage in extreme market conditions is one of the biggest risks for options sellers, and the limit-order requirement is written into the rules.

My take: The essence of options-selling strategies is to monetize volatility. With macroeconomic data fluctuating and BTC seeing wide swings around $80,000, premiums are typically richer, increasing the strategies’ theoretical appeal. The trade-off is giving up the gains from a major one-way move; in a trending market, sellers are at a disadvantage. The tool itself is neither bullish nor bearish—it depends on the user’s view of volatility.

Exchanges are gradually bringing traditional brokerages’ options toolkits to retail investors, and volatility itself is becoming a directly tradable product.
