Chip stocks shed $1 trillion in six days

- The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has fallen for six straight trading sessions, down 12% in total, wiping out about $1 trillion in market value. A 3x leveraged semiconductor ETF has dropped nearly 21% this week, yet still attracted about $3.8 billion, its biggest weekly inflow ever. The fund has $19 billion in assets.

- The $72 billion VanEck Semiconductor ETF saw net inflows of more than $430 million over three days, its biggest weekly inflow since early September. It’s leveraged traders buying more as prices fall—not long-term investors building spot positions—so volatility will be amplified.

The SOX is now the pricing anchor for AI compute tokens. Their correlation with the SOX is stronger than with the broader market. If the SOX can’t close with a bullish reversal candle, any rebound in compute tokens is a bull trap, and their decline will be steeper than BTC’s. BTC is simply facing a liquidity drain: it may not fall much further, but it also can’t gain traction.

If you’re holding compute tokens, what’s your cost basis—and at these levels, are you willing to buy more, or wait for the SOX to stabilize first?
