【10.16 Morning Market Recap | Risk Assets Hit by a Triple Whammy】
Markets were rattled overnight:
① US PPI surged to 6.3% in August, more than triple the Fed’s 2% target, sending rate-hike expectations sharply higher; $BTC briefly fell to around $81,500;
② Asia-Pacific chip stocks were battered: both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ triggered circuit breakers—the first time since late July. SK Hynix fell over 10%, Samsung dropped 7%, and SoftBank slid 8%. Foreign investors recorded a record one-day net sell-off of $9.3 billion in Taiwan;
③ Attacks in the Strait of Hormuz reached their highest frequency since the conflict began. Trump was reportedly weighing the use of the “Mother of All Bombs” against Iranian energy facilities, sending safe-haven demand soaring.
There were bright spots, too: $USDC received the first “Significant Electronic Money Token” designation under the EU’s MiCA framework and will come under direct EBA supervision starting November 12; $CAKE proposed “The Flip,” a new proposal that cuts daily emissions by 69% to 7,000 tokens and raises the LP revenue share to 88%, earning CZ’s support; SOL’s Alpenglow upgrade is scheduled for October 21, cutting finality latency from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds; INJ is seeing the arrival of Pentiv’s $10 billion real estate tokenization initiative.
Macroeconomic headwinds are mounting, but stablecoin and RWA infrastructure is moving faster toward deployment. In times of panic, it’s even more important to see who’s actually building.
