BlackRock CEO Larry Fink warned that a U.S. moratorium on AI data centers could push the economy into recession. According to NS3.AI, Fink said AI infrastructure spending has become central to economic growth and described much of the opposition as misinformation.

Wall Street analysts estimate AI capital expenditures could top $1 trillion in 2027. An Annenberg Public Policy Center survey found that 61% of Americans opposed new data centers locally this summer, up from 49% in the spring. Data Center Watch counted roughly $130 billion in projects blocked or delayed in the first quarter of 2026 alone.
