According to CNBC, Apple and Meta announced a collaboration that will let developers run Meta's new open-weight AI model, Muse Spark Open, on Apple's high-end Mac Studio desktop computers. Meta said the 816-billion-parameter model can be used for coding, video analysis and other agentic tasks, and that it runs locally rather than in the cloud. The companies said users can pair two to four Mac Studio PCs to use the model, which has been tuned for Apple's silicon and can be downloaded from sites such as Hugging Face without extra configuration. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang said the setup makes it practical to run a powerful open-weight model on personal computers, while Apple also published new chip benchmarks and technical documentation for its MLX AI framework. The collaboration comes as Apple and Meta deepen their AI efforts, with Apple previously partnering with OpenAI and Google, and Meta continuing to push both open-weight and proprietary models.
