Ledger released a statement on Thursday disclosing a “highly sophisticated” supply chain attack.

The criminal group first purchased Ledger devices, implanted hardware capable of stealing users’ recovery phrases, then reintroduced the devices into the supply chain through distributors. The investigation began after a user in Southeast Asia had funds stolen after purchasing a device from a distributor in Malaysia. On-chain investigators say the stolen amount reached $86 million (the exact figure has not been officially confirmed).

Ledger emphasized that there were no vulnerabilities in its chips, systems, or servers; the issue occurred during distribution after the devices left the factory. Authorized distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong have suspended sales, and the company is cooperating with law enforcement to trace the funds. (Source: Bitcoin Magazine)
