Visa had just taken $USDC prefunding out of pilot mode that morning, and by the afternoon Mastercard had brought its acquisition BVNK onto the Global Money Platform—the two announcements on the same day are both racing to solve the question of how stablecoins get into everyday payments.
Official announcement, October 15: Mastercard Global Money Platform launches, bringing together multi-currency accounts (fiat and stablecoins), real-time conversion, stablecoin cards, and local bank payouts via Mastercard Move through a single API. This is the first major integration wave since its acquisition of BVNK in August 2026.
The hard numbers: Move reaches over 17 billion endpoints; the 2027 target is to expand to 40+ currencies and 200+ countries and territories; stablecoin balances can be spent at hundreds of millions of Mastercard merchants, with card issuance coverage in 130+ countries. On the account side, it also mentioned that rewards can be configured for $USDC and $OUSD. Early participants: Nuvei, Marqeta, Ontop, Bolt Group, and Almond FinTech. Now available through BVNK.
Screening takeaway: Card networks are turning stablecoins from “on-chain assets” into “a line-item balance in your account.” It’s the same-day narrative as Visa Direct prefunding and the Stripe × Plasma multi-currency card, but with a different entry point—Mastercard’s post-acquisition full-stack API. Not investment advice.
