A case brought by Lewis Barber against BitMEX operator HDR Global Trading has appeared in the London Commercial Court. The claim is for 324.8 Bitcoin $BTC , worth approximately $27.2 million, covering 1,053 losing perpetual contracts between 2018 and 2022.
The claim focuses on regulatory authorization. The plaintiff argues that HDR did not have permission from the UK Financial Conduct Authority to provide derivatives services in the UK, and that the transactions should therefore be unenforceable. BitMEX says the lawsuit has been filed but not yet served; the exchange closed in September.
Bitcoin $BTC is currently priced at 82,274.01 USDT, up 0.49% over 24 hours. The amounts and number of trades are set out in the claim, but service has not yet been completed, and near-term prices do not yet show any trading impact directly linked to this claim.
