📉 Oct 15 Market Review | One CPI Report Ignites a Global Reaction

Tonight’s main story was inflation: U.S. September CPI rose 3.7% year over year, above expectations of 3.6%, while core CPI came in at 2.6%. Bets on another Fed rate hike this year surged from 17% to nearly 30% in a week, and the U.S. Dollar Index hit its highest level since May 2025.

The ripple effects were immediate:
• BTC briefly fell 2.3% to around $81,500
• More than $106 million in ETH long positions were liquidated in one hour—the highest total in nearly six months
• Spot BTC ETFs saw $261.5 million in net outflows for the day, while ETH ETFs saw $129.5 million in outflows
• Japanese and South Korean chip stocks plunged: the KOSPI crashed 7.56%, triggering its tenth circuit breaker of the year; SK Hynix fell 11%, Samsung 9.5%, and SoftBank 7.9%

There were bright spots amid the panic: $CAKE proposed Flip, cutting emissions by 69% to 7,000 tokens a day and raising the LP revenue share to 88%, with CZ voicing strong support; Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade is set to go live on October 21, cutting finality time from 12.8 seconds to 150 ms; $USDC secured the first major e-money token certification under the EU’s MiCA framework and will come under direct EBA supervision starting November 12.

One thing to watch: futures trading volume is currently nine times that of spot markets, making leverage an amplifier of volatility. With macro headwinds, managing your position matters more than the urge to buy the dip.
