Stablecoin cards are going live—don’t rush to chase XPL
Stripe announced a partnership with Plasma to launch multi-currency stablecoin cards supporting USDC, OUSD, and compliant stablecoins that meet the GENIUS Act. The service currently covers more than 30 countries, with a target of expanding to over 100 by 2027.
This news is unlikely to provide much support for XPL buying in the short term. Card issuance, currency exchange, and payment clearing are front-end use cases; the only activity that actually settles on-chain is the resulting balances. The key question is whether Plasma can retain its stablecoin supply after incentives fade. As for price, any short-term surge will likely give early unlock holders an opportunity to sell into strength. If the rebound can’t hold above the upper edge of the gap from the previous decline, that’s a window to reduce your position. A bottom is forming only if trading volume continues to contract on pullbacks while on-chain stablecoin balances rise at the same time. Until BTC establishes a clear direction, small- and mid-cap assets like XPL will only amplify volatility.
If you’re holding XPL, what’s your cost basis? Are you selling into this rebound, or waiting for the on-chain stablecoin supply data before making a move?
