Ledger responds to attack involving hardware implants and suspends sales in Asia. ⚠️
The cold wallet manufacturer Ledger issued an official statement clarifying the recent physical attack detected involving its devices. The company explained that criminal groups bought genuine units, installed spyware components to extract the seed phrases during initial setup, and then reintroduced the tampered devices to the market through local intermediaries. In response, Ledger ordered the immediate suspension of sales by its authorized distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong.
The company stressed that this was not a flaw in its technology, as its security chips, operating system, and servers remain intact. The incident was classified as an external attack localized to resale channels after the products left the factory. After auditing its own inventory and stores in Europe without finding any irregularities, Ledger tightened its distribution rules: it banned the resale of returned products (even if they appear untouched), required inventory to be removed from public display cases, and is working with authorities to trace the affected funds.
