$XAUT is trading at $4,156, up 0.36% over the past 24 hours. The key $4,100 level has held once again.

The dollar and U.S. Treasuries made waves today. Inflation came in at 3.7%, above expectations, sending the U.S. Dollar Index straight up to around 102 and the 10-year Treasury yield bouncing to 5.19%. According to the textbook, that should have pushed gold prices lower. But $XAUT is still hovering above $4,100, barely budging—in defiance of the usual playbook.

The buying in the over-the-counter market has been strong. In its latest Q3 data, the World Gold Council reported record inflows of $30.7 billion into global gold ETFs during the quarter, with holdings climbing to 4,256 tonnes. Even in September, a month when prices pulled back, ETFs still saw net inflows of $10 billion (67 tonnes). Buyers treated the price dip as a discount, not a reason to retreat.

Central banks have been even steadier. The People’s Bank of China added another 23 tonnes in September, extending its buying streak to 23 consecutive months. Its holdings now stand at 2,410 tonnes, or 9% of foreign exchange reserves. It keeps adding, tonne by tonne, without paying heed to the price.

Meanwhile, $BTC fell 2.83% over the past 24 hours to $81,682. It’s a completely different world from gold’s sideways trading: rising yields are still weighing on risk assets, while safe-haven demand is providing support in the other direction.

Holding above $4,100 is the line in the sand. A move above $4,180 would point to the sideways trend continuing; a break below $4,080 would leave room for a further drop.
