In this wave of liquidations, Ethereum was hit hardest.
It accounted for 60% of all liquidations across the market.
Bitcoin’s market cap is more than five times Ethereum’s.
Yet their shares of liquidations were reversed.

The reason isn’t hard to find.
ETH has a heavy load of futures open interest.
Measured by liquidations per $100 million in market cap,
its leverage density is six times Bitcoin’s.

Another factor is amplifying volatility.
When macro conditions tighten, ETH falls faster than BTC.
Its futures trading volume has long been more than ten times its spot volume.
Prices are driven more by derivatives.
Longs are hit hardest when macro conditions weaken.
Positions leaning in the same direction are too concentrated.
When prices move against them, liquidation orders pile up one after another.

In the hour the data came out, the market was thrown into disarray.
In one hour, $485 million was liquidated across the market.
Long positions accounted for $464 million.
ETH alone accounted for $200 million.
The leverage bill always comes due.

In crypto, liquidation volume measures crowded leverage, not fundamentals.
